Tennison S. Black, who was born in Yuma, is the author of Survival Strategies, which won the National Poetry Series and was recently released by UGA Press. This talk will focus on the challenges and opportunities of documentary poetics, exploring how the Yuma desert shaped Survival Strategies and Black's view of the world as well as a discussion of Black's path to winning the National Poetry Series and breaking out as a debut author after 50.
